How do I start the machine?
A: Cold Start
- Add fuel (fuel mixture ratio 25:1).
- Close the choke. If the machine has a primer bulb, press it 3–5 times until the bulb is filled with fuel.
- Pull the starter rope 3–5 times.
- After hearing two “cough” sounds,
- Open the choke.
- Pull the starter rope again to start the engine.
A: Hot Start
- Open the choke.
- Pull the starter rope to start the engine.
Why won’t the machine start or why is it difficult to start?
This may be caused by an improper fuel mixture ratio, spark plug issues, or a clogged carburetor.
- Check whether the fuel mixture ratio is 25:1. If not, adjust the fuel mixture to 25:1.
- Check whether the fuel line is bent or clogged.
- Check whether the spark plug is producing a proper spark.
- Check whether the engine is flooded.
- Check whether there is a carburetor malfunction.
How do I fix a spark plug problem?
- Check whether the spark plug is producing a spark: Remove the spark plug, connect it to the ignition coil, and place the spark plug electrode against a metal part of the machine. Pull the starter rope and observe whether the spark plug produces a spark during starting.
- Check the electrode gap. The gap should be 0.5–0.7 mm (approximately the thickness of a credit card).
- Clean oil stains and debris from the surface of the spark plug.
- If there is still no spark after completing the above steps, replace the spark plug with a new one.
- Check whether the ignition wire (coil) is damaged.
How do I fix a flooded engine?
- Remove the spark plug.
- Turn the machine upside down.
- Pull the starter rope.
- Drain the excess fuel from the cylinder.
How do I clean the air filter?
- Remove the air filter.
- Use an air blower to blow off dust and debris from the air filter.
- If the dirt cannot be removed or the filter has been used for a long time, replace the air filter.
How do I fix a carburetor problem?
- Carburetor blockage:
Block the cylinder intake port with your finger and pull the starter rope twice. If no fuel mist sprays out, remove and clean the carburetor. - Metal friction noise inside:
If metallic friction noise occurs inside the carburetor, stop using the machine immediately and send it for repair or replace the carburetor. - Carburetor adjustment:
a. On the side of the chainsaw starter assembly, you will find three adjustment holes marked T, L, and H. These correspond to the idle adjustment screw (T), low-speed adjustment screw (L), and high-speed adjustment screw (H).
b. First, ensure the engine is turned off. Using a screwdriver specifically designed for carburetor adjustment, carefully turn both the high-speed screw (H) and low-speed screw (L) clockwise until they cannot turn any further. Do not overtighten, as the carburetor is a precision component.
c. Then, turn the high-speed screw (H) counterclockwise one full turn, and the low-speed screw (L) counterclockwise one and a half turns.
d. Start the engine and pull the throttle to about half position to allow the engine to warm up properly.
e. While the chainsaw is idling, adjust the low-speed screw (L). This screw controls the fuel mixture at idle. Turning it clockwise makes the mixture leaner and increases engine speed; turning it counterclockwise makes the mixture richer and decreases engine speed. Slowly turn the L screw clockwise to find the highest idle speed point, then turn it back counterclockwise by 1/4 turn. This ensures proper idle speed and correct fuel mixture entering the cylinder.
f. After adjusting the L screw, adjust the idle screw (T). Turning the T screw clockwise increases idle speed; turning it counterclockwise decreases idle speed. Adjust to a stable minimum idle speed while ensuring the chain does not move.
g. Next, adjust the high-speed screw (H). Under high-speed and heavy-load operation, the H screw controls the fuel mixture concentration. If the mixture is too lean, engine speed will rise quickly with a sharp exhaust sound but reduced torque. If too rich, engine speed will increase slowly, high-speed performance will be limited, and the exhaust will sound dull with possible heavy smoke.
h. When adjusting the H screw, follow these standards:
The engine should not stall when the throttle is suddenly increased and should transition smoothly.
During cutting tests, aim for maximum cutting power rather than the highest engine speed.
How long can stored gasoline be used in the chainsaw?
Gasoline stored for more than 30 days may prevent the machine from starting.
How can I tell if the cylinder is leaking?
Manually turn the starter pulley.
- If it becomes very difficult to turn when reaching the compression peak, and after passing the peak it continues to rotate forward by itself for a full turn, the cylinder compression is normal.
- If the starter pulley turns easily with little resistance, the cylinder may be worn or the gasket may be leaking.
Why does the machine produce black smoke during operation?
Black smoke is usually caused by incomplete combustion. Possible reasons include:
- Improper carburetor adjustment (such as incorrect L/H screw positions)
- Worn piston rings
- Excessive engine oil in the fuel mixture
The issue can be resolved by adjusting the carburetor or inspecting the internal engine components.
Why does the machine overheat or stall during use?
Overheating or stalling may be caused by:
- A clogged air filter
- Dust buildup on the cooling fins
- Vapor lock in the fuel line (fuel vaporizing at high temperature)
Before use, check whether the air filter is clean and unobstructed. After use, clean wood chips from the guide bar groove and cooling fins.
How should I maintain and service the chainsaw?
- Fuel Management:
Use fresh fuel mixture and avoid storing gasoline for too long.
Clean the fuel filter regularly (approximately every 25 hours of operation).
Ensure the fuel tank cap filter is free of debris
2. Chain and Guide Bar Maintenance:
When the chain becomes dull, use a special file to sharpen the cutting teeth at a 30° angle along the cutting direction.
Add chain oil after each use to reduce friction and wear.
Regularly clean debris from the guide bar oil inlet hole and apply protective oil.
3. Regular Inspection:
Replace the spark plug every 200 hours of operation.
Inspect the ignition coil annually.
Perform a full carburetor service once a year, including cleaning the fuel passages and checking diaphragm elasticity.
4. Starting Limitation:
Do not pull the starter rope more than 5 times continuously, as this may cause engine flooding.
5. Shutdown Procedure:
Let the engine idle for 30 seconds before shutting it off.
6. Long-Term Storage:
Drain all fuel from the tank to prevent carburetor sticking.
7. Operating Tips:
Warm up the engine at low speed for 2–3 minutes before operation.
After every 20 minutes of work, allow the machine to rest for 5 minutes.
Why is the engine lacking power?
This is usually caused by a dirty air filter. Clean or replace the air filter as necessary.
Why does the engine suddenly stall during operation?
A chainsaw that suddenly stalls is usually caused by problems related to the fuel system, carburetor, air filter, spark plug, mechanical compression, or electrical system.
- Poor fuel quality or clogged fuel filter:
Expired or contaminated fuel, a clogged fuel filter, or a bent fuel line can interrupt fuel supply or cause incomplete combustion.
Do not use gasoline stored for more than 30 days.
Maintain the correct fuel mixture ratio of 25:1. - Improper carburetor adjustment or blockage:
Incorrect L screw calibration, carbon buildup on the nozzle, or a stuck main jet can cause the mixture to be too rich or too lean, leading to stalling. - Clogged air filter:
Dust or oil blocking the air filter reduces airflow, causing an improper fuel-air mixture and possible engine stall. Clean or replace the air filter. - Cylinder scoring (engine seizure):
If the cylinder is damaged, consult a professional technician for repair or part replacement. - Flooded engine:
Remove the spark plug, turn the machine upside down, pull the starter rope, and drain excess fuel from the cylinder. - Carbon buildup in the muffler:
Clean or replace the muffler every 100 hours of operation.
Why doesn’t the chain rotate after starting?
- Check whether the chain brake is released:
Pull the hand guard (located in front of the handle) backward toward the handle until you hear a “click.” This means the brake is released. Pushing it forward will lock the chain. - Check whether the chain is installed correctly:
The chain must properly engage with the sprocket. If not, reinstall and adjust it correctly. - Check chain tension:
Adjust the tensioning screw to ensure the chain is properly tensioned—it should move freely but not hang loosely. - Check chain lubrication:
Ensure the oil tank has sufficient bar and chain oil. Inspect the oil pump for blockage or leakage, and replace it if necessary. - Check for chain jamming:
Turn off the chainsaw, remove the guide bar and chain, clear any wood debris, and inspect both for damage. - Check for worn drive sprocket or chain:
Replace severely worn components if necessary. - Ensure proper installation:
Confirm the chain is fully seated in both the sprocket and the guide bar groove. - Check compatibility:
If the chain pitch does not match the sprocket, it may bind and fail to rotate. Ensure the chain, guide bar, and sprocket are properly matched. - Guide bar nose sprocket failure:
If the guide bar nose sprocket is seized and does not rotate, replace the guide bar.
What should I do if the starter rope cannot be pulled?
1. Starter assembly issues:
- Check if the starter rope is stuck. If so, reset it. If the rope is worn or broken, replace it.
Clean and lubricate the gears and gear shaft if dirt or lack of lubrication causes jamming. - Inspect the flywheel for deformation or cracks; replace if damaged.
- If the recoil spring is broken or aged and the rope does not retract, replace the spring or rewind the rope.
2. Fuel system problems:
Flooded engine: Excess fuel may block starting. Place the chainsaw with the exhaust port facing downward for about 20 minutes to drain excess fuel, then retry.
Carburetor fuel supply issue: Remove the spark plug and block the cylinder hole with your finger while pulling the starter.
If no fuel residue appears, fuel supply is insufficient—clean or replace the carburetor.
If fuel is present but starting is difficult, adjust the carburetor mixture screws.
Poor fuel quality or clogged filter: Replace old fuel (over 30 days) and clean or replace the fuel filter.
3. Ignition system problems:
Spark plug issue:
Black electrode: clean carbon deposits.
White or heavily worn electrode: replace the spark plug.
Standard gap: 0.5–0.7 mm.
Ignition coil failure: If there is weak or no spark, replace the ignition coil or high-voltage pack.
4. Cylinder or piston seizure:
If pulling the starter feels extremely heavy or produces abnormal noise, inspect the cylinder and piston rings. Replace worn parts if necessary.
5. Clogged air filter:
A dirty air filter restricts airflow. Clean or replace it regularly (recommended inspection every 2 hours of operation).
How do I properly install the chainsaw chain?
⚠ Always wear thick protective gloves during installation.
- Pull the front hand guard backward to release the chain brake.
- Use a wrench to loosen and remove the two nuts, then remove the side cover.
- Install the guide bar onto the machine. Place the chain onto the drive sprocket and into the guide bar groove, ensuring the cutting teeth face the correct direction.
- Adjust the chain tension screw so the tension pin aligns with the guide bar hole.
- Reinstall the side cover and lightly tighten the nuts.
- Lift the guide bar tip and turn the tension screw clockwise to adjust chain tension. The chain should have about a 2 mm clearance from the guide bar and move freely by hand (15–20N hand force).
- Fully tighten the nuts and rotate the chain by hand (with gloves) to ensure smooth movement. If not smooth, readjust as necessary.
Why does the chainsaw lose power after being used for some time?
1. Poor fuel quality or incorrect mixture ratio:
Use fresh gasoline and follow the correct mixing ratio specified in the manual (e.g., 25:1).
2. Clogged fuel filter or carburetor:
Clean the fuel tank, filter, and carburetor jets regularly.
3. Clogged air filter:
Clean every 2 hours of operation; replace if severely dirty.
4. Carbon buildup in the muffler:
Clean every 100 hours to maintain proper exhaust flow.
5. Spark plug carbon buildup or damage:
Clean with sandpaper, adjust gap to 0.5–0.7 mm, and replace every 50 hours if needed.
6. Ignition coil or switch failure:
Check with a multimeter and replace faulty parts with original components.
7. Worn cylinder or piston rings:
Low compression reduces power—inspect and replace worn parts.
8. Poor chain lubrication or worn chain:
Ensure proper lubrication and replace excessively worn chains to reduce resistance.
How often should the chainsaw be serviced?
- Every 10 hours of use:
Check the fuel filter.
Clean the carburetor. - Every 25 hours of use:
Replace engine oil and oil filter (if applicable).
Inspect the spark plug. - Every 50 hours of use:
Clean carbon buildup from the muffler.
Inspect the piston rings and cylinder.
What should I pay attention to when using a new chainsaw for the first time?
1. Safety preparation and environment check:
Wear protective goggles, ear protection, a safety helmet, gloves, and safety shoes. Ensure the ground is stable and dry. Do not operate on ice, slippery surfaces, or steep slopes.
2. Fuel mixing and refueling:
Use two-stroke engine oil mixed with gasoline at a 20:1 ratio for a new chainsaw. Shake well before refueling. Never use pure gasoline. Refuel away from open flames.
3. Pre-start inspection and adjustment:
Check that the chain is correctly installed and properly tensioned (should move freely by hand).
Close the choke before starting. Prime several times until fuel flows into the carburetor.
Pull the starter rope steadily—do not yank it abruptly.
After starting, let the engine idle for 3–5 minutes before operation.
Ensure the chain brake is released before applying throttle. Running at high speed with the brake engaged may cause severe clutch friction, overheating, and melting of the side cover.
4. Operating safety precautions:
Stand with feet shoulder-width apart and knees slightly bent.
Hold the chainsaw firmly with both hands.
Be aware of kickback.
Never adjust the chain or touch the chain while the machine is running.
Why does the chain rotate at idle after starting?
The idle speed is set too high.
Adjust the carburetor idle screw (T) by turning it counterclockwise (to the left) 1/4 turn at a time until the chain stops rotating.
Why is the chain not receiving oil?
- Use a thin needle to clean the oil outlet hole on the guide bar.
- Clean the guide bar oil groove with a soft brush.
- Check and tighten the connection between the oil tank and oil hose to prevent air leaks.
- Manually prime the oil line: remove the hose and use a syringe to inject oil until no air bubbles appear.
- Clean the oil tank filter with gasoline to remove sludge.
- Check the oil pump by starting the chainsaw and observing oil flow. If no oil flows, replace the oil pump.
